BUILDING FAMILY and MARRIAGE
Here at Fellowship Bible Church, we want to help you strengthen your marriage so that you can truly experience that oneness that God intended. We offer Adult Learning Center classes each year, as well as a number of online resources and suggested reading. We also have counselors who can help you through some of marriage’s more serious challenges.
GOD'S VISION FOR MARRIAGE
In a word, marriage is about oneness. “For this cause a man shall leave his father and mother and cleave to his wife and the two shall become one flesh. The man and his wife were naked and not ashamed.” (Genesis 2:24-25). It is about one woman and one man uniting for life (see Doctrinal Statement, section "Man") to bring God glory as they live, work, love, and parent.
Were it not for sin, marriage would be a snap. Couples would never separate or divorce and no one would ever be unfaithful or unkind. But because of sin, marriages everywhere are stretched and stressed.
It is here – in the mix-up of love and sin – that Christian marriages can set themselves apart from others by seeking to be obedient and honoring to God. They can do this by the man loving his wife and the woman respecting her husband (Ephesians 5:33).
Congratulations! We thank God that He has brought you together and given you the desire to enter into the holy, life-long covenant of marriage. It is our desire to see you off to a great start, which is why we require premarital counseling before saying any “I-do’s." Before your wedding date, we ask that you spend six sessions with trained mentors to discuss topics such as communication, conflict resolution, money management, responsibilities and biblical roles of husband and wife, intimacy and much more.

FAMILY and PARENTING
It is in the role of parenting that we most come to understand the heart of God. We have the responsibility to provide for, to teach, to correct and to discipline our sons and daughters so that they can be prepared for a successful life as adults. We are to teach our children in all places and at all times, so that they will in turn teach their children who will teach their children not yet born to know God, to put their trust in Him, to not forget His deeds, to keep His commands and to not be like their stubborn forefathers who disobeyed God (Psalm 78:1-9).
In a family, God wants each person to belong, grow, serve and connect. This is the place where “life makes up its mind.” It is here that boys and young men learn to provide, to serve, and to lead. Girls learn to make a home, be a helper if they marry, nurture a family, and learn to work hard. Parents are to be respected and obeyed and young people are to be instructed but not exasperated. Families are under great stress in the 21st century. In light of efforts to redefine the meaning of the family, we all need to understand the design and role that God has for us and take the steps to make those a reality through following Christ.
Biblical Pillars of a Family Foundation
God has laid out principles upon which any family in any culture can build successfully. Such biblical pillars establish a clear direction for leaders of families and churches to train men and women for the next generation. We will explore ten foundational basics for building a strong family. DVD version will be available in 2016. Use the Contact Us form to request your DVD copy.
