I Corinthians 13

The Excellence of Love

The Beatles told us that “Love is all you need.” Tina Turner belted out, “What’s Love Got to Do With It?” Queen sang about a “Crazy Little Thing Called Love.” The 1970 book and movie, “Love Story,” told us, “Love means never having to say you’re sorry.” –NOT!

How would you define love? What terms come to mind?

The teachings of Jesus and Paul in the New Testament are replete with a focus on a new concept: agape, or unconditional, divine love.

The chapter falls into three sections:

Verses 1-3 discusses several dramatic expressions of devotion that are of no value without the proper motive of agape love.
Verses 4-7 defines characteristics of agape love.
Verses 8-13 speaks of the permanence of agape love.
